Series 16 - Cut is a layered piece; it begins on top of a painted canvas with cuts of dark color in it. Then I lay a knife on top and colored the piece red giving it the feeling of life. the knife was used to create sushi, which was later added on top of the canvas. Sushi chefs are artists, they create magnificent color and shapes with the use of their knives. The fortune cookie fortunes were added as a cultural reference. Japanese and Chinese American restaurants always give out fortune cookies at the end of the meal. The piece could not have been complete without them.
